Teen Vogue Fashion University Application 2011: Q&A

These were my answers to the TVFU 2011 application questions.

What has inspired you to pursue fashion?
To an artist, where they portray their work is a canvas. To a designer, where they portray their work is on the human body. Fashion is art you can wear. I can be myself through fashion, and that's what has inspired me most. I can produce or buy anything that portrays me. Fashion has opened the doors to creativity and dreams. As cliche as it seems, the world would be an immensely bland place without clothing and accessories. People get a sense of who we are when we portray ourselves without conversing first through our clothing.

What are your goals?
I would like to become a successful fashion designer or fashion journalist at any fashion magazine. I want to show people of all ages and genders that fashion is for anyone. You can be whoever you want to be with fashion. I want to make haute couture and affordable fashion. I don't want anyone to be afraid to walk into a store because it's "too expensive". I want to inspire.

Who are your favorite designers?
Marc Jacobs and Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy are definitely my fashion role models. They both bring this sort of elegance, edge, and style all together like I've never seen any other designers do before onto the runway. I can't explain it, but what they produce just puts me in awe and I can't take my eyes off the runway. They pursue eccentric, creative, and innovative ideas into their outfits.

What is your signature piece/look?
My signature piece or look would be combat boots, bows, chains, and/or lace. I like combining classic looks, with edgy ones. To me, it makes the outfit more eye appealing.

I got accepted and attended the New York City event! You can check out my yearbook photo on the Teen Vogue website here:
