Urban Architecture; Part I

Chilean hotel Elqui Domos just opened a series of cabin ‘observatories’ that are beautiful. The cabin bedrooms are ground level and have large sky light windows. Great for star gazing. We can thank architect Rodrigo Duque Motta for these lux little gems!

Installation made from found woods by Henrique Oliveira,  for 2011 Bienal do Mercosul, Brazil.

Retail store design and visual merchandising has gotten so incredibly innovative and resourceful over the years. Just look at the amazing work coming from architecture and design firm, Tacklebox, and the work they’ve done at OWEN in the Meatpacking District in NYC. They took brown paper bags and attached them to the walls and ceiling to create this nest-like, honeycomb effect.

Well isn’t this the most spectacular planetarium/auditorium you’ve ever seen? It’s called The Eye of Wisdom by Spanish architect Salvatore Calatrava and is located in Valencia, Spain.
